What weight does over time
A 35-gram frame is unnoticeable for ten minutes and leaves indentations on the bridge after two hours. Because the entire load sits on two small nose contact points and the tops of the ears, small differences in mass are felt disproportionately.
Reference points
- Under 20 g: very light, usually rimless or titanium
- 20–25 g: comfortable for all-day wear — OptiReaders Pro is approximately 22 g
- 25–30 g: fine for shorter sessions
- Over 30 g: typical of cheap injection-moulded readers; noticeable within an hour
Light without being fragile
Polycarbonate lenses are both lighter and more impact-resistant than glass, and a slim frame profile removes mass without removing strength. Spring hinges matter as much as weight: they spread pressure instead of clamping, which is what makes a light frame stay comfortable on a wider face.
Fit still decides comfort
A light pair worn too far down the nose is less comfortable than a heavier pair sitting correctly, and on a graduated lens it also puts the reading zone out of position. See the sizing and fit guide and the unisex frame details.
