The right way to clean them

Rinse under lukewarm water first to float off grit, add a drop of dish soap on your fingertips, rinse again and dry with the microfiber cloth included in the box. The rinse is the part people skip, and it is the part that prevents scratches.

What ruins coatings

• Shirt tails, tissues and paper towel — all abrasive on a coated lens
• Household glass cleaner, alcohol wipes and ammonia
• Hot water and leaving them on a car dashboard, which can lift coatings
• Dry-wiping dusty lenses, which drags grit across the surface

Storage

Use the hardshell case that comes with every pair — lenses down is the wrong way round, arms folded and lenses facing up is right. If you keep a pair in a bag, the case is not optional.

How long they last

With sensible care, several years of daily wear. Coatings do eventually haze with repeated cleaning; that is normal wear rather than a fault, and the guarantee terms set out what is and is not covered. Keeping a spare from the 2-pair bundle means you are never stuck.
